A dramatic saga unfolds as a renter sells the landlord’s 4-bedroom duplex for ₦83 million and vanishes with the funds.
This incident was reported by a Nigerian attorney known as @theomonilelawyer on TikTok.
The lawyer noted that the renter had resided in the property for seven years.
Additionally, he revealed that the tenant fabricated documents, including a deed of assignment, survey plan, and receipts from the Okota family, to persuade a buyer to acquire the property.
Following the transaction, the tenant asked for a four-month extension to vacate, claiming he required time to find a new residence.
The deception was uncovered after an agent realized that the tenant was falsely claiming ownership, contradicting its rental nature.
Meanwhile, the property owner has returned to Nigeria, and authorities are currently investigating the matter.
Highlighting the significance of due diligence, the lawyer warned, “Always verify property before purchasing. Don’t fall prey to land fraudsters or home buying scammers.”
