Seasoned Nollywood star Yemi Solade has revealed his choice to abstain from church gatherings for over a decade, disclosing that this decision stemmed from personal experiences that conflicted with his career and tranquility. During an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the actor reminisced about a pivotal moment in 2013 when a pastor at his previous church urged him to refrain from accepting acting roles scheduled for Sundays. Solade expressed that this edict made him uneasy, as it directly disrupted his profession and source of income. He detailed that this scenario prompted him to reassess the equilibrium between faith and personal endeavors, ultimately causing him to withdraw from consistent church participation. “If you catch me in a church, it’s likely due to filming. Back in 2013, I accompanied my wife to church, and the pastor instructed me to decline work on Sundays. Ironically, that very job he wanted me to shun is what provides for me and enables me to make offerings. That’s when I chose to step back,” he explained. Solade debunked the commonly held belief that life would decline without church attendance, asserting that his life has remained steady and even more serene since he stepped away. He noted that he has been able to concentrate better on his family and acting career without the incessant demands of church committees and events that used to monopolize his time. “A belief that if one doesn’t go to church, their life will plummet, I have not experienced any shifts. Instead, I find tranquility; I thrive, because every day I attended church, I encountered messages and all forms of distractions,” he added. The actor emphasized that his decision was not an affront to faith but rather a deliberate choice to evade unhealthy pressures that impede personal development and productivity.
