The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has officially announced that he is no longer a politician, stressing that his role as a traditional ruler has completely drawn the curtain on his political career.
The monarch, who once served as the Governor of Oyo State, made this declaration on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to his palace by a delegation of prominent Nigerian politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu, among others.
“I Am Now Fully the Olubadan”
Speaking during the high-profile visit, Oba Ladoja said his new role as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland requires him to remain neutral and committed only to the service of his people. He explained that while politics had been a significant part of his life, his ascension to the revered Olubadan throne meant that he had left partisan politics behind.
“I am no more one of you. I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house. Now that I am the Olubadan, I am no more interested in any other things than the Olubadan. You are welcome to my house,” the monarch declared.

The former governor took time to reflect on his long years in politics, recalling moments he shared with Atiku Abubakar and others during his days as a political leader. Ladoja reminded his guests that their political journey dated back decades, beginning from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) era.
“We started from SDP, we were in exile together, we were in PDP together. When I wanted to create an identity, I went to Accord Party which became a household name here. I know you politicians have a way of coming back,” he noted with a smile, acknowledging the resilience of Nigerian politicians.
Ladoja also referenced his exile years, his return to national politics under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his eventual founding of the Accord Party, which gained popularity in Oyo State during his leadership.

“All the religious leaders said that the only thing the leaders can do is to promote justice and fairness. I will serve my people — Ibadan people, Oyo State, Africa, and the world at large. I will depend on your support and advice,” Oba Ladoja affirmed.
