Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Benue State have arrested a man for allegedly vandalising electric cables in the early hours of Sunday, June 1, 2025. The suspect was apprehended at Commissioner’s Village in Makurdi while attempting to cut and steal electrical cables from public infrastructure.Upon searching the suspect, NSCDC personnel found several items in his possession, including used and unused condoms, as well as packs of instant noodles, raising further suspicion about his activities and intentions. Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen hijacked a Benue Links vehicle and abducted several female passengers along the Owukpa–Orokam road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturadsy, May 31, near the Eyiupi community as the victims were traveling from Orba market in Enugu to Owukpa. A middle-aged man identified as Sodiq Oyewunmi has been sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment for stealing electrical cables from the Oke Afa Wastewater Treatment Plant, an essential public facility under the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO). He was apprehended on-site by plant officials and arraigned before the Lagos State Taskforce Environmental and Special Offences Court.
