The Umuaka Asa community located in the Ukwa West LGA of Abia State has erected a shrine aimed at safeguarding public possessions in the vicinity from being damaged or pilfered by criminal elements.
Furthermore, the community asserted that its traditional leader, Eze Sunday Nwogu, had no involvement in the alleged sale of a transformer gifted to them by the NDDC, despite what his detractors claim.
Sampson Nwaigwe, the Traditional Prime Minister of Umuaka Asa, who responded to the accusations made against Eze Sunday Nwogu, recalled instances where thieves vandalized the armored cables of an electrical transformer, alongside other property thefts in the locality.
As stated by the Traditional Prime Minister, the rise in theft and vandalism led the community to establish the shrine to deter and prevent further acts of destruction and theft of residents’ belongings.
He dismissed the assertions that the shrine was created to hinder Christians from freely practicing their faith, as reported extensively in the media recently.
In addition, Nwokeukwu Damian, the Commander of Umuaka Vigilante Networking, remarked that the armored cables stolen by criminal factions were eventually retrieved, emphasizing that the shrine was set up to protect the community from wrongdoers.
The people of Umuaka Asa accused an individual who has previously contested and lost the Ezeship Throne to Eze Sunday Nwogu of being behind the negative narratives against the traditional ruler.
They further insisted that Christians and adherents of other religions have consistently coexisted harmoniously within the community without any form of harassment or infringement.
