Uche Kingsley Agumba was named as one of the accomplices of an Enugu native doctor Obi Obieze, popularly known as Ezeani, who was allegedly involved in kidnapping and ritual killings.
The incident came to light after a 13-year-old girl was abducted on May 26 while heading to the farm with her father.
The next day, the girl was found tied up after her cries were heard coming from Obi Obieze’s compound where she is reportedly being prepared for a ritual.
Authorities later discovered several bodies buried in a soakaway pit within the compound, including that of a pregnant woman.
Outraged residents burned down the native doctor’s house and vehicles.
Obieze initially fled the area but was later caught while allegedly trying to escape the country.
The police confirmed the arrest of three other men linked to the case including Uche Kingsley Agumba, 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, 36; and Ejike Odinwankpa, 38.
Uche Kingsley’s arrest shocked many, especially those in the South East who knew him as a devout Christian.
Friends and acquaintances recalled how he regularly traveled from Aba to Enugu to attend church events. He was known for placing church stickers on his shop, vehicles, and home.
What’s even more surprising is that, while he appeared to be deeply religious, it’s now being alleged that he was secretly involved with the native doctor behind the ritual killings.
Uche was also considered a successful entrepreneur. He ran a building materials business in Ariaria Market, Aba, and sold furniture supplies in Iloabuchi, Port Harcourt.
His Facebook profile, filled with religious messages and ads for building supplies, has now become a place where shocked Nigerians are leaving comments expressing their disbelief over his alleged role in the crimes.
